PD_Format v1.0
--------------
This is a small utility that will allow you to low-level format and
partition the writable cartridges for the Panasonic LF-1000 PD/CD-ROM
drive.
PD_Format is needed since some hard drive partitioning software packages
(including HDToolBox from Commodore) are unable to identify optical
drives.
Please also review the brief notes for the Panasonic PD/CD-ROM drive
contained in the "Drive_Compatibility" text file on the install disk.
Usage
-----
PD_Format will bring up a listing of all Panasonic LF-1000 (or equivalent)
drives that AsimCDFS has currently mounted. Click on the desired device
in the "PD/CD-ROM drive". The information on this device will be
displayed in the text gadgets (vendor, product, revision, etc.).
The current size of the cartridge is displayed in the "Capacity" gadget.
For this release, only 650MB cartridges are supported. If no cartridge is
present, this will be noted. Use the "ReScan" gadget to have PD_Format
re-check the drive for a cartridge.
**************
**Please note: that some SCSI controller cards will cause system crashes
if PD_Format is instructed to "ReScan" just after a cartridge has
been inserted. To be safe, wait until the "busy" light is turned off
on the PD/CD-ROM drive before selecting "ReScan".
Located in the bottom-middle of the window are the standard "Load"
and "Eject" gadgets. These will cause the PD/CD-ROM drive tray to
be loaded and ejected, respectively.
Clicking on "Format" will have PD_Format initiate a low-level format
and certification of the cartridge. THIS WILL ERASE ALL INFORMATION
CONTAINED ON THE CARTRIDGE!!! The format operation will take
approximately 30 minutes, during which there is no opportunity to
abort the format. Once the format is complete, PD_Format will write
a standard PD0 device to the cartridge.
The remaining step is to do a DOS-level format -- this can be done
via Workbench using the "Format Disk" option under the "Icons" menu.
Otherwise, the AmigaDOS "format" command will also work. A "quick"
format is sufficient and should only take a few seconds.
At this point, your PD optical drive is ready for use.
